Le PTFE est affectée par certains métaux alcalins (en fusion ou en solution) et les composés en fluor se décomposent à des températures et/ou des pressions élevées. Certains solvants organiques et des solvant halogénés sont absorbés et provoquent des changements dimensionnels mineures, mais ces effets sont physiques et également réversible.
Remarque: la résistance chimique de chaque polymère est largement déterminée par la structure chimique du matériau et à la résistance du maillon le plus faible dans cette structure.
